A group of 10 captive Barnacle Geese has tried on the GPS-loggers which we will attach to wild geese in Russia. With the GPS-loggers we have gathered accelerometer data of these geese to predict their behaviour.
This summer we will catch geese and equip them with GPS-loggers and geolocators. As soon as we can download data from these geese, you can follow their migration on this page.
ArcticBarnies
The Arctic summer is short, and for migrant birds that breed here timely arrival is of vital importance for a successful breeding season. But what happens when the climate changes, and temperatures rise in the Arctic? How do the prospects for these birds change, and can they adjust their migration schedule in order to keep up with change? In the project 'ArcticBarnies' we study how climate change affects migration strategies of Barnacle Geese. Here we write on the progress, the successes and the challenges, and the eventual results of our research project!
